The absurd possibilities of genetic manipulation of animals, brought to public awareness by the announcement of the first cloned mammal, the sheep Dolly, has left a big mark on William’s work. The most intelligent, most beautiful, strongest animals or even humans with the nicest character would soon become a reality?….

In the beginning of this period William was also introduced to, and immediately made member of the art collective The cracking art group. They shared exactly the same philosophies about art as William: Focussed on nature, with the use of plastics (=fossilised nature) as their main ingredients.

The famous cloned animals editions.

These multiples are mostly life-sized clones, with a strong message shown in group, but equally convincing on their own. A-natural monotone colours and placement outside their habitat, such as indoors, greatly enlarges this effect.
